Update on UK/Swiss Tax Agreement - Inheritance Tax
A subsequent announcement has revealed that upon death, the Swiss bank will freeze any account held by a UK
resident until either (a) the executors agree that the Swiss bank may inform UK HMRC of the account, or alternatively
(b) the Swiss bank makes a 40% deduction in respect of potential liability and passes this to the UK HMRC.
For some, therefore, this might be seen to remove one of the perceived advantages of the Swiss/UK Agreement over
the Lichtenstein Disclosure Facility (LDF), making it more likely that they will choose to make their disclosure under
LDF.
